According to local archives the Gonnet family have been in Bédarrides since 1600.
Jean Etienne Gonnet built the farmhouse that serves as the winery today.
Etienne Gonnet created Font de Michelle in 1950. Jeanne (née Brunier) Gonnet inherited the vines from La Crau from her father, Jules Brunier. The vines are between 100 and 110 years old. The grapes produce the two Cuvées Elegance de Jeanne (100 % Grenache) and Etienne Gonnet (Grenache, blended with old vine Syrah and Mourvèdre).
Etienne Gonnet was the Mayor of Bédarrides for 12 years (1952 to 1964).
In 1974, after the death of their father, Jean and Michel took control of the domaine.
Michel and Jean Gonnet created the first Font de Michelle bottle in 1974.
First bottle of Cuvée Etienne Gonnet was created in 1988.

In 2002 the Gonnet property expanded to include 20ha of Côtes du Rhône and Côtes du Rhône Villages Signargues situated in the Gard – La Font du Vent. Bertrand gained work experience at Clos Saint Michel, Châteauneuf du Pape, Beau-Sejour Bécot, in Bordeaux and started working at Domaine Font de Michelle in 2002.
Guillaume worked in Burgundy, at Domaine Leflaive in Puligny Montrachet, Béau-Séjour Becot St Emilion, Joseph Phelps in the Nappa Valley, Domaine Beaurenard in Châteauneuf du Pape and Rapapora Vitness in the Marlbourgh Valley, New Zealand. He started working at Domaine Font de Michelle in 2006.
In 2009 both Domaine Font de Michelle and Font du Vent began the rigorous process of conversion to organic agriculture.
In 2010 Gonnet Rhône selection was created, the first wine Gigondas, l’Olivia was vinified.
Domaine Font de Michelle is certified organic from the 2013 vintage. This process takes three years to complete, at the end of which they will be able to label the wine organic, certified by EcoCert.
